INKspired Colour Combo Challenge 121 - Blossoms in Bloom

Welcome to another colour combo challenge designed by Teneale Williams

You may have just visited Katrina Healy's blog  and hopped over, if not please use the link to hop back when finished, visit her page and see what she has created.

At first, I thought I would not include old olive in the mix of colours for my card.  However, after creating a watercolour background with Mango Melody, Pool Party and Pretty Peacock, I decided to just play with adding some Old Olive. I really love the effect, and it actually adds the 'icing to the cake', and as spring will be upon us soon it reminded me of my upcoming flower beds in the garden.

I also used the Many Layered Blossom Dies from the Blossoms in Bloom Bundle, and the sentiment is from the By The Dock Stamp Set.

I used the large / flat water painter brush from the new Water Painters set.  This brush was perfect for creating the streaked effect.

I used the shimmer white card stock for my watercolour background, and I began by using the Pool Party ink first from the bottom left corner and  just up to about a third of the card front. Next, I began blending the Pretty Peacock ink lightly where the Pool Party ended and continued up with varying levels of intensity to around two-thirds, and finished off with Mango Melody.

I used the Mango Melody ink very lightly at first on the remainder of the card front. Then I applied the Old Olive in varying levels of intensity over the whole card, not too much and not too little.

Next, I went back and added some Mango Melody in a darker intensity here and there. It is important to remember not to use too much water on your brush, you don't want the paper to become saturated.

I like to either use a small clear block pressed in the ink pad on one side and then pull the ink down with the water on the brush to create the colour intensity I want, or to apply a few dots of ink from the re-inkers to a clear block, and do the same.

The feature is created from the Many Layer Blossoms dies. I cut the thin overlay from Whisper White card stock, and the underlay in vellum from the fuller die. I believe that this layering has produced a subtle effect over the water colour background.

The sentiment is on Whisper White card stock, cut out with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch, and lightly sponged the edges with Pool Party Ink. I popped the sentiment up with dimensionals.

I topped it off with a bow made from the Snowflake Splendor Ribbon that will be available from the Mini Catalog in September 2020. This ribbon is iridescent and picks up the colours around it beautifully!

I think this picture above highlights the softness of the colour combination.

For the inside of me card, I used Pool Party card stock as a background to the Whisper White, and added one of the smaller flowers in the die set.  I added water colour in the same combination lightly to the Whisper White flower before gluing to a vellum underlay.

A tip I find helpful for gluing the thin cut outs to the vellum (or any surface) is to apply the multipurpose liquid glue on a sponge, then sponge lightly to the back of the cut out. I suggest to do this on the Silicone Craft Sheet, this will provide a safe gluing surface and the sheet can be easily wiped cleaned.

I really hope my card showed off the colour combination, as well as how to create a simplistic water colour background for any card! The possibilities are almost endless to the imagination!

Have fun Stampin'!
